Our indigenous version of “The Mafia” in Cape Town, a City in the Western Cape Province (State), where I live, is a notorious prison gang sect whose influence knows no boundaries inside or outside of the jails, and crimes are dictated by former and current prison gang leaders.
This phenomenon is an odd one. We have individual gangs outside of prison, who fight each other for drug selling market territory and often murder and torture is perpetrated, but once these outside gang members get into jail, they are dictated by a strict code known as the “numbers gang” system."
