deputy who arrested Mel in Malibu and witnessed his anti-Semitic rant -- filed a lawsuit against the County of L.A

TMZ broke the story that James Mee -- the deputy who arrested Mel in Malibu and witnessed his anti-Semitic rant -- filed a lawsuit against the County of L.A., claiming he was retaliated against after the L.A. County Sheriff's Department alleged he leaked the police report to TMZ.

Now the County is firing back -- asking that the suit be dismissed -- claiming the assertion that the Sheriff was retaliating against the deputy because he was Jewish is simply unsupportable. In legal papers, the County says, "Simply receiving a directive to proceed in one manner with respect to a police report cannot in and of itself be considered discriminatory."

As we first reported, Mee was ordered to take out all references to Mel's anti-Semitic comments.

As for Mee's other allegations -- that he was "unjustly" denied a promotion, got a negative performance review and was forced to transfer to a less prestigious station --the County claims Mee's religion had nothing to do with it

BRAZEN street-walking prostitutes are operating in Perth

BRAZEN street-walking prostitutes are operating in Perth - just hundreds of metres from the WA Police headquarters.

The Sunday Times this week observed street prostitutes working morning, afternoon and night just 900m from Curtin House.

Motorists were seen picking up prostitutes along Stirling St and at the intersections of Bulwer, Broome and Lincoln streets, on the border of Perth and Highgate.

One Broome Street resident said he recently saw a prostitute performing a sex act on a client on the side of the road at 4pm on a weekday.

Four other residents in the area complained of street prostitutes getting into the passenger seat of their unlocked cars and propositioning them for sex.

An elderly resident said a prostitute got in his car and asked: "Are you looking for a lady tonight?"

Marie Swanepoel told the Pietermaritzburg High Court that Sheryl Cwele had assured her that her daughter, Tessa Beetge, would be safe overseas.

The mother of a 33-year-old drug mule serving eight years in a Brazilian jail wiped away tears as she described her daughter's excitement when the wife of the state security minister offered her a "job".
Testifying in the drug-trafficking trial of Siyabonga Cwele's wife, Sheryl, and of Nigerian national Frank Nabolisa, Marie Swanepoel told the Pietermaritzburg High Court that Sheryl Cwele had assured her that her daughter, Tessa Beetge, would be safe overseas.

"After Sheryl put my husband's and my mind at rest, we agreed. We didn't suspect anything. We were happy Tessa was going overseas. It would be her first trip. She looked at it as a way of seeing the world. It was a trip that neither her mum nor dad had been on," Swanepoel said.

Her daughter had become friendly with Cwele when they were neighbours in the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast town of Port Shepstone. But the two lost contact after Beetge divorced and returned home to nearby Margate.

Swanepoel said Cwele had offered Beetge a job in London in 2008.

UN war crimes court president hopes Serb fugitives will be caught soon - Winnipeg Free Press

UN war crimes court president hopes Serb fugitives will be caught soon - Winnipeg Free Press: "head of the U.N. war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia expressed hope Tuesday that the two Serb fugitives still at large will be caught before the court closes down and hands over its work to local courts in the Balkans.
But Judge Patrick Robinson said mechanisms will be kept in place to try Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic if they are not apprehended by the time the Hague-based tribunal has shut down.
'It is my hope that they will be apprehended soon and brought to the Hague for trial,' Robinson said.
Serbia's War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic, whose job is to find the fugitives, said their capture is in his country's interest. Vukcevic said that Serbia has faced 'political, moral and economic over these two men,' who are believed to be hiding here.
'We want them in the Hague as soon as possible,' he said.
Vukcevic spoke in a speech at the launch of an EU-funded project aimed at helping national judiciaries in the Balkan region deal with war crimes cases. The €4 million ($5.4 million) project is being carried out together with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the U.N. Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute.
Robinson told reporters that the War Crimes Justice Project is key for achieving justice. He said the Hague tribunal will close in three to four years, but that 'the completion of its work, the tribunal's work, lies in the continuation of that work by national judiciaries.'
The purpose of the project, he said, 'is to deliver justice to those who have not received it and will not receive it from the tribunal.'"

'They were there to pay tribute to friends whose daughter was tragically taken from them,' the police spokeswoman said. 'That's all I'm going to say.'
Brooks appeared uncomfortable with the question and wouldn't say if the police investigation was focusing on a possible connection to the biker gang.
Investigators are working on more than 150 tips they have received in connection to Szendrei's killing.
'At this point we're not in a position, we're not able to say anything definitively,' she said. 'The Delta police are keeping a very broad perspective and we're considering any and all possibilities until we have evidence to determine otherwise.'"

The Mafia Boss: Organized crime in South Africa: Prison Gangs | The Mafia Boss Official Blog - Mafia Game Blog, Mafia Blog

The Mafia Boss: Organized crime in South Africa: Prison Gangs | The Mafia Boss Official Blog - Mafia Game Blog, Mafia Blog: "South Africa was the world’s murder and rape Capital and probably still is.
Our indigenous version of “The Mafia” in Cape Town, a City in the Western Cape Province (State), where I live, is a notorious prison gang sect whose influence knows no boundaries inside or outside of the jails, and crimes are dictated by former and current prison gang leaders.
This phenomenon is an odd one. We have individual gangs outside of prison, who fight each other for drug selling market territory and often murder and torture is perpetrated, but once these outside gang members get into jail, they are dictated by a strict code known as the “numbers gang” system."

Drugs and violence in the Hood

Drugs and violence in the Hood: "Members of the Uniformed Gang Task Force approach a drug addict as they cruise the crack-shack infested neighbourhood known as the Hood.
The addict wants to talk to police. He wants to share information. But he is terrified. He asks Sgt. Mark Jordan to pretend to arrest him for his protection. Jordan, an Abbotsford police officer, slaps on the cuffs and puts the man in the back of a task force SUV. He is still worried.
'I don't want to be the next one f---ing shot man,' he said. 'It is a big war right now.'
He explains that the Game Tight Soldiers (GTS) run the shacks on two streets in the Hood -- and the Independent Soldiers (IS) run them on two other streets. Both gangs originated in Vancouver, but have shifted north. They are in conflict over buyers and territory in this poor, downtrodden neighbourhood of simple homes built under the Veterans Land Act."
