Don't be misled by age of accused: Crown - Winnipeg Free Press

Don't be misled by age of accused: Crown - Winnipeg Free Press: "Winnipeg jury has been told not to be fooled by the tender age of two teens accused of carrying out a gangland 'hit' against a rival drug dealer.
'I'm sure you are curious why two boys, aged 15 and 16, would coldly execute someone sitting in their own vehicle,' Crown attorney Susan Baragar said Wednesday in her closing arguments. 'It defies belief.'
The accused, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. Thomas Roy Phillips, 38, was shot twice in the head and once in the chest from point-blank range as he sat in the driver's seat of his Jeep Grand Cherokee on March 26, 2007.
Jury deliberations are expected to begin Monday.
'Just because you're a kid doesn't make killing OK,' said Baragar. 'Let me remind you these kids had guns, who used them to kill someone at four in the afternoon.'
A former Winnipeg gang member who became a justice informant testified earlier this week the pair were acting on orders from a senior member of the Indian Posse to kill Thomas, who was infringing on their 'turf' by selling drugs in the neighbourhood and had links to the Manitoba Warriors gang."
