Charges added for reputed New England mob ex-boss: "Federal prosecutors have added racketeering charges in the case against a reputed former New England mob boss they say extorted protection money from strip clubs and adult bookstores.
Two more men were charged in the case Tuesday, as Luigi 'Baby Shacks' Manocchio appeared at a bail hearing in federal court in Providence.
The two men, Theodore Cardillo and Richard Bonafiglia, are charged with racketeering and extortion conspiracy. A judge entered pleas of not guilty on their behalf because their lawyers were out of the state.
The judge ordered Bonafiglia held, citing prior convictions, but released Cardillo on bond.
Manocchio remains in custody pending another bail hearing next week.
Prosecutors say Manocchio, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is a flight risk and a danger to the community."
